Exploring Downtown Chicago, USA

Slept until 8:00pmish so I knew I wouldn't have much time. Yesterday I'd got some packets to send mail. Did that today. Total over $50.00

Then went to the Museum of Science & Industry. Entry $5.00 (+$4.00 for the interesting discovery video if I wanted it) +$3.00 for entry into the Star Trek exhibit.

It was very interesting. Especially getting myself beamed down to a planet! Filmed myself!  Also recorded myself on several of the computer challenges.  A lot of fun.

Went into the Star Trek shop and heard a kid say. "Oh what? They're cheaper in K-Mart"

I liked the battery operated tribble.

Lots & lots of exhibits. Put my face into a graphic scrambler. After I'd done it all I found out I should've faced closer.  Oh well.

Saw the Discoverers omnimax video which was fairly interesting, then raced out to take the bus to the Adler Planetarium in the hope of catching the ST-TNG show. No such luck. Got the Shining Star instead.  Not very good but interesting. Same with the displays.  I wish I'd had time to go on a boat cruise.

Afterwards I went back (walked a long park at night) to collect my film/photos. $52 something and not all were printed (you only pay for those that are) I'd mistakenly got doubles. Graffoto is the only one I could find so I had little choice. Not impressed with the quality of the printing at all. (Size, condition, lack of completion etc)

After dropping the photos back to my motel room I went out and searched for a place to eat. Couldn't find anything interesting until I rounded a corner and there it was. Planet Hollywood.

Inside was a steadily rotating, full size copy of Arnold S's Terminator, plus a turning Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and lots of memorabilia.

A screen slid open to reveal a video of clips - whether it was a retrospective of Demi Moores movie roles or love scenes from around the globe it was pretty interesting.

There's a clock on La Salle Blvd/St that gives the time and temp (F & C). The temp in the morning was 3 degrees Celsius and afternoon was 8 degrees Celsius. Coldest whether I've ever experienced!

Anyway, had swordfish at Planet Hollywood. Was served by a fairly attractive girl named Pam who informed me, after seeing my passport to confirm travellers cheques, that there will be a Planet Hollywood opening in Sydney in about a years time. ('99 note: It did, on George St)

I then had an apple strudel for desert. Oh, also had a $14 alcoholic souvenir drink (You keep the glass). When I'd finished the drink she cleaned the glass and put it in a box and a bag. Total cost about $50 including a $7 tip.

Got to see the second half of a Quantum Leap episode while I packed. Also saw Beyond 2000 - The Aussie version slightly edited and intro'd by an American for the Discovery channel.
(I don't know if there is an American version but they sure wanted to make it look like this was one!)

There was an ad for Knight Rider 2000 to be screend Friday night. Hope the Brown Palace has cable.

Read more of the New Adventure - Iceberg. It didn't start to get interesting until the middle. Very tiring until then.
