Deeds:
*Gave a black guy near Adler most of my change. He washed windows for money and he seemed pretty cool so I said 'no windows to wash and it's not much.' *Gave a lady a quarter. *Then helped a very attractive asian girl open the shutter on her store which had got stuck. *A black lady dropped her babies bottle of milk, spilling it everywhere so I handed her a packet of tissues. ('99 note. Okay, they don't look much now but at the time, when I didn't have much time or money, they meant a lot) *At most hotels I've left one or two dollars for the maid and I've usually given above 15% in tips. Really not sure about what counts as a good gratuity. Food today consisted of onion on turkey burger (even though I requested tomato), Pizza slice of the day with four toppings and a beef and vegetable asian meal (served to me by that girl who I helped with the shutter) with fried rice. As I write this I could eat more now but I had to chuck half of it because I was full. Bummer! Well, now on the train to Denver. I hope they warn us of the time changes on the way back. This time around I've got a window seat so I anticipate moving very infrequently.
Well, we've started to hit land! I'm aware that I'm sitting on the wrong side for good views but I'm not concerned. I sleep better here. It's interesting to see the amount of houses decorated with lights. Also their bushes. Families are definitely different to what I know. No unnecessary rejection of ideas. At the Power House Museum in Sydney people glance at things and kids are told to look and be careful. In the Science and Industry Museum, all ages, young and old, are excitedly taking part in the exhibits. A group of guys I saw, if Aussie, wouldn't be caught dead in a nerd environment like that, but the Americans were excitedly operating things. There's a certain confidence. For the first time I was filled with joy. People are happy here, even with the constant terror of guns, war, poverty and other problems that the USA has in abundance compared to Australia. There is definitely a different state and definition of 'happy' in the USA I'm just pleased to see black and white people getting along, contrary to what is written on toilet walls. Had a couple of hours sleep between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. |
