Thursday 25th to Friday 26th November

In the restaurant I met and chatted with Danny John-Jules. Discussed how he's going to handle all the crowd. (This is his first convention) His answer? He's paid to. "Ya gotta do it." Told to look out for Maid Marion which has now ended.

Comedy convention with Danny John-Jules in Sydney in September '94. He got the fax yesterday. He and his mate had an argument over the food. They ordered pumpkin soup. I had spare ribs. He's really a cool guy.

After looking at the programme schedule his comment was that he doesn't work this much when he's working!  (Well, something like that)

John Levene also commented that I have nice teeth!!!

Also saw Jean Marc L'Officier ('99 note: Thanks for crediting me in the Nth Doctor!)

Joined the High Council of Time Lords. (Prydonians of Prynceton)
Did all my postcards.

Friday 26th November
Had breakfast in room then went down for the opening ceremony.

Unfortunately my video camera had somehow broken so lots of difficulty holding a good picture. Love Ainley's joke when he received his award. "Awards are like hemorroids. Every asshole gets one in the end!!"

Each guest got up and collected an eyeball award. Jokes like "Things are looking up, the eyes have it etc proliferated. Except for the lame intros and fill in scenes it was quite enjoyable.

Next was John Leeson (K9) and William Russell (Ian Chesteron). I was surprised to see that John was very amusing. They discussed Jacqueline Hill (Barbara)
Next was Carol-Ann Ford (Susan Foreman) and Sophie Aldred (Ace).
Afterwards, went searching for other panels to find that what I thought were other panels were actually photo and autograph sessions. Recorded some of them.

Had camera set on low exposure so when Danny ran towards my camera I blanked him out! Bummer! (No screen grabs of Danny available yet!)

Next was Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), John Levene (Sergeant John Benton) and Wendy Padbury (Zoe Herriot). Wendy talked about Patrick Troughton (the 2nd Doctor) and Lis talked about Ian Marter (Harry Sullivan).

Next was Colin Baker and Anthony Ainley. Very, very amusing. Worth watching again. Then Peter Davison and Nicola Bryant.
After that was the 30th anniversary 3D adventure - Dimensions in Time, presented by John Nathan Turner (the longest running producer of Doctor Who) It was very good. I loved it to death. ('99 note. When I got back to Australia I started the Sydney Doctor Who Science Fiction Fan Club with Robert Smith. Every monthly meeting began with Dimensions in Time. And every month there was someone who hadn't seen it!) I was so impressed that I had to speak to him about the two Aussie's who developed a 3D system that doesn't need glasses.

It cost $5 for the 3D glasses. So Peter & Colin were selling them outside. (See photo) Unfortunately my tape recorder didn't work so I didn't get Colin shouting $4.99 over here. $4.99. It was funny.  I went up, gave him $5, said thanks and walked on. Without saying anything more. Colin gave me a funny look as though to say "You didn't act like a fanboy!"

The costume parade was interesting. Especially the stand up comic Jamie act. He had a severe, off the cuff/improvised conversation (public) with Danny John-Jules. 'Who'd believe someone with hairy legs like yours?'
'At least I don't shave mine!'
Brilliant! A few guests judged it.

After that had dinner not far from Colin Baker, his wife and Jacqueline Pearce. Colin had a near miss when someone threw something over the railings into the restaurant. Don't know what it was.

Wandered around afterwards till late then joined Anne & her friends in the bar. They left and I joined Marcy & her friends. Met chuck who's a biker. Told me he carried a knife for protection at all times.

It was good fun though, getting to chat to these people from St Louis.
Found out that the St Louis arch has a platform that you can look out of so that you can see everything below. Cool!

(For Doctor Who fans wondering how this is related, the cover of the NA Love and War features an arch similar to the St Louis arch.)

Went to bed at around 3:00am
