Amtrak cam LA cam - The city |
Oh yeah, the
Airport bus only cost $1.10. The buses don't have areas. You pay $1.10
anywhere you get on. On a bus to Union Station later that day it was about
15 min walk (unlike an hour by bus to LAX) and it still cost $1.10. ($1.35
if you're going to transfer and you probably got a ticket (couldn't explain
why I didn't need to get one and some others did)) You've got to put the
dollar note into a machine and the tiny little dime into a different part.
It beeps to let you know you've paid. (Buses are not my forte!)
Lots of black people and spanish people. It's rare to see anyone with blue eyes. Got to the airport at 9:30am. Plane to arrive at 9:46am. Went and got a coffee. After much searching I sat down to my coffee and leave it at 10:15am. Went down to the Lower level to wait for Allison to show up until about 12:30pm. Checked with info.
Went to all the different airlines. A kind black guy checked the records and my cousin hadn't checked in for the 3:00pm flight. ie she wasn't listed for it. A group called AVA? were on strike so hope she didn't need that one. The black guy recommended I check United Airlines (about 5-10 min walk away) No sign. Eventually after paging, ringing my mum collect, and exhausting myself I caught the 'C' bus LAX Express which took me back to the transit gate where I jumped aboard the No 42 10 minutes later. Collected bag from the Hyatt Regency after walking around LA - Downtown, finding out the Post Office IS closed on Weekends buying a Double Whopper and Sprite at a Kentucky Fried Chicken/Burger King combo joint, and relaxing for awhile. Then headed off to Broadway street where I knew there would be a bus to Union Station. Carting the heavy bag around wasn't child's play but I managed to finally find the stop on 1st Street (a little bit further than expected) Bus No. 40. This was about 6:00pm. It was dark! Got to Union Station, got my tickets. Bought bottles of Evian mineral water and waited. The train is great, plenty of leg room. I took out my video camera to make sure everyone knew I still wanted a window seat. (Because they insist you sit somewhere else if two people want to sit together and you're preventing them!) Bought a wing fillet sandwich and a postcard with a comment 'ah someone didn't have dinner tonight' & postcard 'ah dessert'. Well, they've turned the lights off so, until tomorrow. |
