Ganso Kujiraya in Shibuya, Tokyo Japan

Whale restaurants and other places in Tokyo, Japan
Up early and over to Sangubashi train station with my 20kg backpack. Very heavy and I'm straining to lift it.

Got to Iidabashi without incident, dropped my bag off at the Tokyo Youth Hostel, then, after calling family (father's day) I looked at some markets opening up around the YH building. Some of the prices at this street market were upwards of $50 (4500 yen) Not cheap.

Today I was going to meet a couple of my ex students. I was seeing Hiro at 12pm and Ayako at 3pm. I was really looking forward to catching up with them again.

Walked around Shibuya and took some photos of Sweets Paradise and other places. Tamon told me about the whale restaurant called Ganso Kujiraya so I suggested it to Hiro and he said 'great'!

Hiro arrived at 12pm at Hachiko in Shibuya and we went straight there. It's only a short walk away and not far from Building 109.

The whale was a lot cheaper than I expected and surprisingly delicious. We had whale skin with sashimi whale and whale steak with beer and sake. Excellent food and great conversation.

The steak was the best steak I'd ever tasted. Seafood flavoured meat. (My review of the whale restaurant)

Afterwards I left Hiro at Shibuya station and then met Ayako. We went to a smoke filled cafe bar, drank coffee and talked for a couple of hours about everything. Great fun!

The cafe bar was very cosy and I think it was called Primo. There were a number of them around Tokyo.

After that I headed back to Iidabashi and checked in. The facilities here are great. Being able to leave my bag for the morning was very useful and, while there is an 11pm curfew, the building contains plenty of places to buy food and is in a central location.

I did my washing and bought some million year old egg congee at the downstairs late night eateries. Delicious.

Also watched X-men 3 in Japanese for a few minutes. (Every hostel I went to during this trip was playing X-Men 3 in either English or Japanese)

Tomorrow, if it isn't raining, I hope to make it to Tokyo Tower.
